On Friday 6th March, Lauriston was alive with rhythm, creativity and excitement as we welcomed musicians from the London Mozart Players—the UK’s longest‐established chamber orchestra, known for their world‐class performances and inspiring outreach work.
The day began with vibrant, hands‐on workshops for Year 4, led by the visiting musicians. Pupils explored body percussion, experimented with musical patterns, and even composed their own class songs during the morning sessions. The atmosphere was buzzing as our young musicians discovered new ways to express themselves through sound and movement.
In the afternoon, the whole school gathered for a joyful assembly performance, where the London Mozart Players showcased music spanning centuries and styles: from Mozart, to Harry Potter, all the way to Pharrell Williams. The hall echoed with excitement as children listened, joined in, and felt the power of live music up close.
This special event was organised through A New Direction and their Primary Arts Programme, which supports creative opportunities in schools and helps children experience high‐quality arts education from professional artists and organisations.
The children were captivated throughout the day, they learned new musical skills, discovered instruments they had never seen before, and felt truly inspired by meeting real musicians. It was a fantastic reminder of how live music can spark imagination, build confidence, and open doors to new creative possibilities.
What a brilliant day of music-making at Lauriston!
